Dear
Alzheimer’s Association,
My
wife tells me I never used to be a forgetful person. The trouble is, I
have no memory of those days, and there are many people in my life who
must be introduced to me each time I meet them. I am told I have seven
children but do not remember them.
This
is very frustrating at times, mainly because I feel like I’m out of
touch with reality. Supposedly, I forgot to go to my son’s wedding. I
also forgot that I left the iron on some years back and our house burned
down. The fire department was able to save our dog, Giuseppe, though.
It’s
really annoying sometimes because it feels like I’m out of touch with
reality. I am told that I have forgotten to do many things, like go to
my own son’s wedding, and turn the iron off. (Our house caught on fire,
but the fire department was able to save our dachshund. His name is
Giuseppe.)
Sometimes I feel like I don’t even know who I am, because I am living
with people I can’t remember. My wife tells me I didn’t use to be so
forgetful. She says I have some sort of disease, whose name fails me at
the moment. She told me to write to your organization to see if anything
can be done.
It’s
exasperating, let me tell you! It may be hard for you to imagine being
told you did things (or forgot to do things) in the past, of which you
have no memory. My wife said I forgot to go to Ben’s wedding, and also
that I forgot to turn the iron off one time, which resulted in the
burning down of our beloved house. Thankfully, she says, the fire
department was able to rescue Giuseppe (our dog, a dachshund).
Please let me know if there is anything you can do! I am taking Vitamin
E and Namenda® but my wife says they are not doing anything.
My
wife says the prescriptions I’m taking are not helping, so please let me
know if there are any further treatments.
Sincerely,

Kevin Dickinson |
