Dear
Guinness,
I
don’t think you would like my friend Alvin very much. You see, he has a
strong hatred for fact collections, and your book is at the top of his
blacklist. In fact, he burned over 50 copies in a single fire last year
to show his hatred for mass-produced record books (but yours
especially).
I do
not share this irrational loathing of Guinness! In fact, I am a huge fan
and an avid reader! I read your record book from front to back every
year. So I have decided to make a record attempt.
Last
week I took over 12,000 copies of the “Guinness Book of World Records”
and burned them in a single fire. Do not get the wrong impression! I
love your book. I burned many, many copies not because I wanted to
destroy them, but because I believe this will earn me a spot in the next
edition. I beat Alvin’s “record” (not that he was trying to set one),
and now I am most certainly hoping that you can provide feedback on my
record attempt! If you want, I can send you pictures and/or video
footage of me burning 12,000 Guinness record books.
I
look forward to your reply, and may my name be eternally imprinted in
your fine book!
Sincerely,

Kevin
