Dear
Columbia Corrugated Box,
I had
to open up a box of goggles at work today. We were all out of not broken
goggles, so we ordered some more. They came in a box and I opened it,
then distributed the goggles to the various workers. “Here,” I yelled.
“Goggles.”
Then
I got to thinking: there’s a company out there, somewhere, that MAKES
these goggles. A goggle factory! And they put their goggles in boxes and
ship them to companies like mine. But extrapolating further into my
daydream left me wondering where boxes came from, so I did some
research and found out that there are certain enterprises conceived for
the express purpose of manufacturing boxes. Yours, for example.
How,
though, do you go about shipping these boxes? Does a box manufacturer
pack its boxes in other boxes? If so, where do those boxes come
from? All these levels of meta-manufacturing hurt my brain.
I
work for a company that makes pallets. All day long I unload wooden
pallets from the conveyor belt, then stack them on even larger pallets
and ship them to people. People who need pallets. We need goggles, they
tell us, because sawdust is not good for our eyes. And the goggles come
in a box. But where does that box come from? How is it shipped? I need
to know!
Sincerely,

Kevin
