Dear IKEA,

I recently purchased some furniture from your Scandinavian store, specifically the BRØKAN chair and the KRÄPPE bookshelf. I also considered the WÜRTHLES dresser and the TRÄÄSHI desk, but I didn’t bring enough money for the last two. However, considering the current state of my new home furnishings, I will not be purchasing anything else from you.

There I was in my brand new house, assembling my BRØKAN chair so I could sit by the crackling fireplace. I finally completed the last step, but when I sat down the chair collapsed under my weight (152lb., or 68.95kg for you Europeans). This was not a children’s chair, so it should have been able to support me without any problems. Now it’s broken.

As for the KRÄPPE bookshelf, it is lying on the floor in pieces! I set it up in my room so I would appear worldlier in the presence of females. It stood against my sage-green wall with such prominence that it appeared as a work of art before my eyes. I loaded it with the finest books I could gather: War and Peace, A Tale of Two Cities, Horton Hears a Who. Ah, the splendor and magnitude of this bookcase was compelling! Until, of course, I was buried under a pile of classic literature. One minute I was observing its timeless qualities, and the next I was on the floor, peering through a small gap between books at a splintered mound of cheap wood.

I assume when the KRÄPPE bookshelf was designed, it was intended to hold books. Nevertheless, it failed in its one true purpose, and for this I would like an explanation.

Please tell me why the KRÄPPE bookshelf and the BRØKAN chair fell apart upon their first use. As I await your swift reply, I will be shopping at Target (fine French furniture at discounted prices). Thank you.

Sincerely,

Kevin Dickinson
